DESCRIPTION
Kolašin is a city located in northern Montenegro, established by the Turks in the 17th century. This charming city is a must-visit destination, situated among the winding Tara and Morača rivers and surrounded by mountains. The Sinjajevina, Bjelasica, Kljuc, and Vuče mountains encircle this small city.Situated at an altitude of 954 meters, Kolašin provides excellent vacation opportunities in both winter and summer. Due to its elevation and favorable climate, the city is considered an air spa.One of the main attractions for tourists is Lake Biograd, located in Biogradska Gora National Park, which is one of the three remaining virgin forests in Europe. The lake is situated at 1,094 meters above sea level and features scenic walking paths around its perimeter.Throughout its over three-century history, Kolašin has experienced a similar fate to many other Montenegrin towns, often changing hands between occupying forces and liberators. This city has been a real historical curiosity, changing ownership 23 times and being repeatedly destroyed before achieving its final liberation. The creation and endurance of Kolašin, as well as its fight for liberation, have been influenced by the tribes from Rovci and Morača, particularly during the 17th and 18th centuries. The municipality of Kolašin encompasses an area of about 900 square kilometers, spanning the middle and upper courses of the Tara and Morača rivers. The municipality is home to around 12,000 residents, with approximately 6,000 living in the town of Kolašin itself.
