The canyon is the second-deepest in the world, following the Grand Canyon in the United States, and the vistas from the bridge are breathtaking.Originally, the bridge was built to link the isolated Durmitor region with the rest of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The construction began in 1937 and presented a significant challenge. The architect, Mijat Trojanović, was given the task of connecting the two sides of the Tara Canyon, which are nearly 400 meters apart, over a 170-meter-deep chasm.
